Casa Mariposa
San Anselmo, CA
This Bay Area gem is tucked away among the trees and removed
from the nearby main streets of the city of San Anselmo. The
two-story house was built in 1917, as part of a larger estate,
for the owner's daughter. It was originally designed by an anonymous
architect, who incorporated Tudor detailing within the Craftsman
style. In 1989, we were commissioned by the current owner to
extensively remodel the existing house and to add a new wing.
The focal point of the new wing became a traditional and elegant
library. We designed the two-story space with redwood cabinetry
and moldings, following the lines of the living room and dining
room paneling in the original house; the trusses and purlins
are also similar in detail to those in the living room of the
existing house. |
